BROADWAY SHOWCASE 2020
I am pleased to announce that the Broadway Showcase 2020 will be held virtually this year.
What is the Broadway Showcase?
The Broadway Showcase is an annual event that gives students the opportunity to perform in solo or small group settings. Students work with the teacher to create a quality performance. Students have a choice in what song to perform.
When is the Broadway Showcase?
The Broadway Showcase is on the school calendar for October 29th. However, since this will be a virtual event, all performances must be submitted by October 15th through video.
Do I have to sign up for the Broadway Showcase?
The answer is no. However, this is a great opportunity for students to learn in a small setting.
What type of song can I sing?
This showcase is all about Broadway. Students can choose songs that are both age and school appropriate from any era of Broadway. The teacher needs to approve a song before any work starts.
How do I go about looking for a song?
Use the resources you have (friends, family, internet searches) to find songs that you enjoy. It is much easier to prepare a song you like. Listen to the song. Don’t worry about if it’s too high or too low for you, that I can change very easily. You can also meet with me during office hours to listen to and decide on songs.
When do practices start?
The majority of practice time will be held during the scheduled office hour. Students will be given a 15-20 minute time slot to meet with the teacher in zoom format. The teacher will provide music and practice tracks so students can practice on their own. In order to prepare a song for the Showcase, you must be willing to practice on your own, as well with the teacher.
Is there a fee to do this?
This event is free to join.
What else do I need to know?
This is considered to be a concert of Broadway songs, so dress nice or wear an appropriate costume when filming your video for the concert. Be thinking about this when you are looking at songs.
Where do I sign up?
You can sign up by filling out the form located in Google Classroom. There are two forms--one for students to fill out and one for parents to fill out. Both forms need to be completed by Wednesday September 2nd.
If you have any questions, please visit my office hours through a zoom meet or email me at Ms. Blachowski's email.
