Practice makes perfect in all that we strive to achieve. Practicing math facts is no different than practicing offensive or defensive plays for a football game. That is why I ask my students to study their math facts every night. This includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts from 0-12. Ten minutes of practice can make a world of difference in a child's education.
Reading is an essential part of learning. There are many great resources to keep our children on target and reading appropriate literature for their abilities. I require my students to read for 20 minutes each night to enable them to reinforce their reading skills while using their reading strategies. Talk with your child about the books they are reading. Ask them questions about the characters and how they have changed throughout the story. Have a discussion about your child's opinion of the book or how they feel about a character and their actions. But most importantly please continue to encourage your son or daughter to continue reading!
