HEALTHY SNACK POLICY
We are very excited to help our students grow and learn this year. One important part of learning is making sure our bodies and minds are prepared and ready to learn. We know it is important to get lots of fresh air, exercise, sleep, and healthy foods. One healthy food choice we can help our students make here at school is to eat a healthy fruit or vegetable at snack time in the classroom.
Here are some examples:
Fruits: Apples, Apricots, Bananas, Blackberries, Blueberries, Cherries, Cranberries, Dates, Dried Fruit, Figs, Grapefruit, Grapes, Kiwi, Mango, Melon, Nectarines, Oranges, Papaya, Peaches, Pears, Pineapple, Plums, Raisins, Raspberries, Strawberries, Tangerines, Watermelon, Fruit cups drained of juice and placed in a sealed container
Peppers (Green, Red, Yellow), Broccoli, Carrots,
Cauliflower, Celery, Cucumber, Cherry Tomatoes
***Dipping sauces and fruit snacks/rollups will not be allowed
Birthday Celebrations in our Classroom
Your child’s birthday is an exciting event for your child. School can help promote a positive learning environment by providing healthy celebrations that shift the focus from food to the child by using a non-edible approach.
Your child may select one of four options for his/her celebration day:
1. Your child may share samples from a hobby, a special toy or keepsake, or a special talent.
2. Your child may share a non-edible birthday treat with his/her classmates. This might include pencils, erasers, stickers, rings, puzzles, books, crayons, bubbles, balls, etc. There are currently 24 children in our class.
3. Your child may purchase a gift for the classroom and can open it with the class. Some ideas might include a book, board game, puzzle, sidewalk chalk, etc.
4. Your child can share his/her favorite book with the class.
