    Course Description Design and Modeling: This unit begins with students learning how to create and use an engineering notebook, which will be used throughout the GTT course. They will learn about engineering and the STEM courses (science, technology, engineering, and math). Metric and customary systems of measurement will be studied, and students will use sketching and dimensioning techniques. Students will complete all steps of the Design Process while solving the Playground Design Problem.

     Classroom Expectations

     Students are expected to participate in all curriculum activities, including collaborative group projects for problem-based learning. Students are to be prepared for class, which includes class supplies. Behavior rules are posted in the classroom

    Vocabulary Words

    Students will have vocabulary work on a unit basis. 

    Assignments

     All assignments will be turned in either on graph paper in the engineering notebook or through the google classroomor seesaw website. Students will have assigned log in’s and passwords to this site. We try to have an engineering notebook classroom, unless we are sketching. If you would like to see upcoming assignments or what the students are currently working on, the google classroom site is the best place to look.

    Design and Modeling

     Lesson 1.1 What is Engineering?

     Students will learn what engineering is, why we need to learn about engineering and technology, how STEM courses are interrelated, and how to use an engineering notebook.

     Lesson 1.2 Design Process

     Students learn the steps of the Design Process and how to use the Design Process to solve problems

    Lesson 1.3 Measurements

     Students practice using historical and current techniques for measuring in both metric and customary systems and are introduced to precision measuring tools.

     Lesson 1.4 Sketching and Dimensioning Techniques

     Students learn to identify and create thumbnail, perspective, isometric, and orthographic sketches and to dimension them correctly

    . Lesson 1.5 Designing for Production Students use Autodesk® Inventor® to learn how to create 3D models. Students will complete all steps of the Design Process while solving the Playground Design Problem.

     Projects

    Engineering/ Engineer Research project :Larger Project

    Skimmer: Students will use a design drawing to properly measure and build a skimmer out of a folder. We will then race the skimmers.

     Peg board toy: Students will create a pegboard toy on inventor and then create one in the workshop out of wood or foam board

    Obstacle Course or Playground Project: Students will design and create models of equipment using Autodesk Inventor software and various materials in the classroom.
