• What is PBIS?

    Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a framework used to provide evidence-based prevention and intervention practices to support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success of all students.

    Essential Components of the PBIS framework:

    • Data – School data is used to make strategic decisions
    • Outcomes – Focus is placed on reaching the desired outcome of academic and behavioral success for all students
    • Practices –Research-based practices are used to teach, practice, and support academic and behavioral success for all students.
    • Systems – Supports and interventions are layered to provide each student with the proper level of support that they need to be successful.

    Tier 1

     

     

    Universal practices and expectations establish a predictable, consistent, positive and safe climate.

     

     

    All students and staff learn, practice, reinforce, and support universal expectations. (100% of students)

     

     

    Example: Warrior Tickets/School Store

    • Students receive Warrior Tickets for following expectations

    • Students have the opportunity to use these tickets at the school store and/or with other incentives.

     

     

    Tier 2

     

     

    Targeted practices and interventions are designed for specific students who need more structure, feedback, instruction and support than Tier 1 alone.

     

     

    All staff provides additional targeted instruction and practices to support specific students (about 5-15%) that do not respond to universal supports alone.

     

     

    Example: Warrior Dashboard

    Some students participate in the Warrior Dashboard Program. This program provides additional review and reinforcement of expectations. Typically, this includes the following:

    • Student checks in with an adult (facilitator) at the start of school to discuss the start of the day

    • Each teacher provides student feedback on the online data tracker

    • Student checks out with a teacher at the end of the day

     

     

    Tier 3

     

     

    Highly individualized practices and interventions are designed to meet the challenges of students who do not respond to Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports.

     

     

    Tier 3 supports might be used with a very small proportion of students.

    Typically, plans are developed by clinicians (like a school psychologist or social worker) with support from other PBIS team members.

     

     

    At this level, student support is highly individualized.

    What are Universal Expectations?

    Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe

    At AUGS, students are expected to be respectful, responsible, and safe in all areas of the school. Staff recognizes and celebrate when students show these expectations. Each area of the school, including classrooms, have specific applications of how to show these three universal expectations. An example is below:

    Be responsible

    Keep moving directly to the destination

    Be safe

    Stay in a single file line

    Keep body to self
