A message from MaryBeth Hulting - Board President

Dear Antioch 34 Community Members:

I am writing to inform you that at the upcoming Antioch 34 Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, the Board will vote on a Mutual Separation Agreement with Superintendent Dr. Jay Marino.  If approved by the Board, Dr. Marino's resignation from the District would be effective immediately.  After five years with Antioch 34, the Board and Dr. Marino have tentatively agreed that it is in our mutual best interests to pursue change.  Dr. Marino has been on leave from the District since Friday, November 1, 2019.

Assuming the Mutual Separation Agreement is approved, I would anticipate the following steps:

The Board would expect to name an Interim Superintendent to complete the 2019-2020 school year in the very near future and then begin the process of identifying the future Superintendent of Schools immediately afterwards.  Because finding the right candidate takes preparation, teamwork, time, and collaboration, the Board would also wish to engage teachers and community members in helping to secure our next educational leader.

In the brief period before an Interim Superintendent would be named, and subject to the approval of the Antioch 34 Board of Education and the Community High School District 117 Board of Education, I have spoken with Dr. Jim McKay, Superintendent of Community High School District No. 117, about his willingness to serve as a Temporary Interim Superintendent.  If approved, Dr. Jim McKay would oversee the day-to-day operations of the district and provide ongoing support for any time-sensitive matters requiring the direction of a school Superintendent.  We are grateful to Dr. McKay for his willingness to provide this professional assistance.  The Board recognized the importance of his guidance in that he already knows the community and supports the success of our schools.  I continue to look forward to a bright, promising future for our students and staff during this transition.

Yours in education,

MaryBeth Hulting
Board President - Antioch School District #34
